Japan is a country that has a lot beautiful places to see such as sacred Shinto shrines, magnificent Buddhist temples, gorgeous landscapes, and so on. But aside from the great things you can do in the country, Japan is also famous for its food. Aside from ramen and sushi, the country has a lot of great foods to offer.
Here are some of them:
Mochi
Mochi is a chewy rice cake that is made by pounding the rice. There are different types of mochi such as the sakura-mochi and Daifuku.
Sakura-mochi is filled with red bean paste and wrapped with a pickled cherry leaf. The variety varies in Japan. Tokyo creates this with having a coarse grain while Tokyo provides a smoother consistency.
Daifuku, on the other hand, is round stuffed with fillings like a sweet bean paste, or a strawberry daifuku that has a whole strawberry and sweet red bean inside.
Soba
Soba can be both enjoyed during the winter and summer. It is a long buckwheat flour noodles that are best served in the winter in a bowl of hot soy and dashi broth. In the summer, soba noodles are served cold with a dipping sauce.
Another popular in Japan is yakisoba which means “fried buckwheat”. Yakisoba is made by stirring fried the noodles with vegetables, pork, and yakisoba sauce, pickled ginger, seaweed powder, fish flakes, and Japanese mayonnaise.
Tonkatsu
Tonkatsu is slices of pork that is breaded and deep fried. It is normally served as a set meal together with shredded cabbage, rice, and miso soup.
